Metal
Maniacs is a range of collector figures, sculpted by
doodlemonkie. Although primarily aimed at collectors, the figures
are ideal for boardgames (a great alternative to 'the boot' or 'the
iron' in Monopoly, if this is as far as you go with boardgames).
The range was mothballed a few years ago, but thanks to negotiations
with one of the UK's leading jewellery manufacturers, may yet be turned
loose on the public once again.
Below are some sample images - if you would like to see more about these miniatures, try going to the originalMetal Maniacssite.
If you are interested in this range, feel free to drop the 'monkie a line - your encouragement is very much appreciated!
Plus: Toxic Zombies!
Shortly after the sculpts for the Metal Maniacs, a small range of
zombies was created - primarily to add variety to the hugely popular Zombies!!! boardgame.
There are a few examples of zombie miniatures out there, but what makes these different is the toxic aesthetic -
freaks looking like the result of science gone wrong; bloated,
blistered, bubonic beasts, based on the wonderful effects of prosthetic
artists such asRob Bottin, Tom Saviniet al. (Remember the villain in the radioactive sludge in Robocop? That kind of thing).
The reason for inclusion here after so long is mostly due to the release of the Grindhouse movie - Robert Rodriguez'sPlanet Terror
section of the project really encapsulates that era of cinema, and the
zombies on show there are very similar in design to these Toxic
Zombies.
Again, these miniatures were cast in pewter; some reproduced easier
than others, which meant a rather erratic balance of stock. The
figures sold well, until the moulds gave up for a couple of the more
problematic cadavers. Doodlemonkie's real-world commitments meant
that the range could not have the attention it deserved, ultimately
getting mothballed.
There are a selection of miniatures left - if you are interested in any of these, get in touch to find out which are still in stock.
